Capsize Screening formula (CSF) was arguably developed to provide a rough estimate of stability using only displacement and beam.
However, as Capsize Screening formula (CSF) does not account for Comfort Ratio, or specifically Length in Waterline, Draft, or absolute Displacement, a 2 feet radio controlled toy boat can, using the formula, be deemed more seaworthy than a 120 feet sailing yacht. (Indeed, using a CSF of 2.00 as the cut-off, a toy boat with a 1 foot beam and a displacement of 10 pounds (lb) which thus has a CSF of 1.86, is consequently rated as an offshore boat)
In contrast, Bluewater value (BWV) (bluewatervalue.com) is the most comprehensive single value assessing seaworthiness and can therefore be recommended instead of CSF.
